Pupil Leadership

School Council:

We have two elected school council representatives from each class, with a total of 20 members. The school council meet every month to discuss current issues and topics and create an action plan going forward to improve our school. Council members then share their actions with their class. Our chair members share our actions with the leadership team. Children have the opportunity to voice their opinions and make changes to our school.

At Bar Hill Primary we believe that placing children’s right at the heart of school is important. Our school council have enrolled onto the “Rights of Respecting school award” and are working on promoting United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child across our school and our community.  The award embeds children’s rights in daily school life and empowers children to grow into responsible, active global citizens. Our aim is to ensure that our Rights Respecting ethos improves the wellbeing of every child in our school as well as helping them be the best they can be and achieve their potential.

Eco Team:

We have two elected Eco Warriors representing each class who meet monthly. The Eco Team have undertaken challenges throughout the year such as a “Litter Less Campaign” which was a project where children had to find out about the environment in school and wider community. The Eco Team also dressed a tree with ribbons to show their application to nature; this is a worldwide celebration which the whole school took part in, and created crafts out of recycling materials to display in our local library to show what you can do with recycling materials.

Play Leaders:

We have a team of Play Leaders in Year 5 and Year 6 at Bar Hill Primary. Our Play Leaders have been trained to organise activities for other children on the playground. They promote physical activity and encourage children to join in games and to extend their friendships. The leadership skills that they have been taught will also help to raise their self-esteem and self confidence.
