Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Bar Hill Primary we aim to promote positive wellbeing and mental health for every member of our staff and our school community.

It is our belief that good mental health and wellbeing in schools can best be realised through a whole school positive culture alongside specific, targeted actions and practices.

We are delighted to confirm that following verification, bar Hill Primary School, has been awarded the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools ‘School Mental Health Award’ – Silver Status! 

In school support:

Bar Hill Primary School will provide in-school provision that focuses on early intervention in the areas of SEND, mental health, behaviour support and restorative approaches.

Inclusion and Welfare Team: Charlotte Linden (Head teacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead), Kate Loombe (Assistant Headteacher and SENDCO), Louise Honey (Pastoral support assistant).

Curriculum: all staff have a responsibility to support social and emotional development, to build resilience and promote well-being through the wider curriculum. PSHE lessons are taught weekly.

Woodlands lunchtime provision: provides a calm, therapeutic setting for children at lunchtime. Children can be referred on request.

NSPCC Speak Out/Stay Safe Programme

Targeted group work or 1-1 sessions with our pastoral support assistant

External Services:

YOUnited is available to those up to the age of 25 and offers a range of support including therapies, counselling and guided self-help. All referrals are triaged and assessed by specialist staff from YOUnited who then work with clients, as well as their family or carers if necessary, on the best pathway to support their needs.

Young minds are a charity who provide support, advice and resources to support all many aspects of children’s wellbeing and mental Health for children, teenagers, parents, carers and those working with young people. Examples of support they offer are: bereavement, low mood, anxiety, eating-disorders and self-harm

Think U Know: If you have concerns or want to some advice about your child’s internet or social media usage, gaming or viewing habits or for a wide range of e-safety guidance, Think U now provides resources for children, teenagers, parents, carers and those working with young people.

Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service: They work with professionals, to signpost, advise and support referrals to the wider emotional health and wellbeing services. They can offer more in depth support, where they can visit staff at schools to provide consultation (with parent/carers consent) and training to support professionals develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of emotional health and wellbeing issues to more effectively and confidently deliver support.
