Curriculum Intention

Our curriculum is a progression model that provides a foundation that equips our children for the next steps in their learning and builds upon prior knowledge and experiences, helping them understand Britain’s place in the world and making links between knowledge to inform their opinions, views and plans for the future. On each of our curriculum pages you can see the clearly defined knowledge and skills which we believe children need to know and which will help inform their opinions and future plans.

Our curriculum celebrates and promotes inclusiveness and contains a clear programme of exposure to and understanding of a range of cultures and lifestyles, diverse views and a tolerance of others’ beliefs. It also contains a variety of worldwide understanding; role models; cultural, scientific and arts experiences which extend pupils understanding of opportunities and aspirations available to them.

Our curriculum has a focus on language development and exposure to a vast range of vocabulary. It contains clear vocabulary and communications opportunities to enable children to access wider learning and social skills and employment in the longer term. Reading and oracy are prioritised as the access to all curriculum areas and are embedded throughout all subjects.

Our curriculum enhances and enriches children’s experiences through concepts such as architecture and forest schooling, and through external visits, which ensure consistent, secure and inspiring experiences. Through motivating experiential opportunities, we strive to enable children to develop enthusiasm for learning and contribute to society in the future.

Our curriculum contains clear opportunities for STEM subjects to inspire children to continue to focus on and enjoy these areas and to support them in accessing work in a growing technological world.

We deeply believe that there should be no barriers to children’s achievements. Our curriculum engenders growth mindset which motivates children and makes them resilient to persisting with learning when difficulties or problems need to be overcome. It is threaded with opportunities for children to be active and express themselves to support the development of their physical and mental health.

We teach a theme based curriculum which draws on children’s own interests and where the core subjects are embedded in the wider foundation subjects and where skills in geography, history, RE, PSHE, PRE, Design Technology, The Arts, computing and music are developed within a context wherever relevant.
